Diablo 4 Item Upgrades
The upgrade to an item allows players to increase the item level for equippable items such as trinkets, armor, weapons and weapons over a certain threshold. They can be obtained at any item upgrader NPC using the appropriate currency.

Costs

Upgrading an item can cost gold and/or Dilithium depending on the item type. A lot of upgrades require Flightstones or crests. The amount of Flightstones and Crests required to upgrade an item is determined by the level of the item. Blizzard also sets a maximum upgrade level. The upgrade to the highest level can be expensive especially if you're upgrading PvE gear.
Upgrades to items can alter the ammunition type of a weapon or size of the damage die, alter its operative or unwieldy specific weapon property, or change its hand requirement. Certain upgrades can even alter a weapon's appearance.
While boosting stats is the primary goal of upgrading items but you should take into consideration the cost of upgrading an item prior to making an investment. You might want to make use of your gold for upgrading rare items, but do not spend it on standard or magic-tier items. These items are not worth upgrading, and rare gear will soon surpass them.
